Volunteers to assist North Hills nonprofit with upkeep of its multi-acre wooded grounds
Pittsburgh — Oct. 27, 2026 — Rivers Casino Pittsburgh’s Rivers Gives team will help with outdoor maintenance at The Woodlands in Wexford at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, continuing the casino’s partnership with the nonprofit.
Casino volunteers will lend a hand with outdoor projects, including yard work, landscaping and paint touch-ups, across The Woodlands’ 52-acre nature retreat. The service day marks Rivers Gives’ third time partnering with the adaptive recreation organization.
The Woodlands is a nonprofit dedicated to enriching the lives of children and adults with disabilities and chronic illnesses through accessible recreation. Using its barrier-free facilities, The Woodlands offers summer camps, weekend retreats, adaptive sports and other programs that enable participants to experience social, cultural, environmental, recreational and spiritual growth.
The Woodlands’ fully accessible grounds include a 48-bed lodge; a creative arts lab; an activity center; a sports court; a nature trail; an adapted kitchen, zip line and archery range; and the region’s only adapted par-3 golf course.
“The Woodlands has been instrumental in creating, and preserving, space in our community for those with disabilities and chronic illnesses to thrive and reach their goals,” said Dr. Rahmon Hart, director of community relations at Rivers Casino Pittsburgh. “With winter ahead, we’re proud to help ensure its facilities remain in great shape so participants continue to have an enriching and reliable environment.”
“We’re always grateful when the Rivers Gives team comes out to help,” said Kim Fecich, associate director of annual giving and donor engagement at The Woodlands. “We appreciate Rivers’ continued support and everything its volunteers do to help care for our site.”
Rivers Gives is the casino’s long-running community outreach program in which Team Members report to work at a local nonprofit instead of on the gaming floor.
Last month, Rivers Gives volunteers joined Community Kitchen Pittsburgh to assemble fresh meal packages and healthy food kits for families facing food insecurity. The effort was part of the annual Rivers Gives Day of Service, held across all five Rivers Casino properties.
