RIVERS CASINO PHILADELPHIA GOES ‘ALL IN’ FOR LUTHERAN SETTLEMENT HOUSE

Poker players’ donations to help nonprofit’s mission of assisting families in Fishtown and beyond; Rivers Bounty Series, with over $40,000 in guarantees, runs April 18-21

PHILADELPHIA — April 3, 2024 — Rivers Casino Philadelphia poker players will be “all in” for Lutheran Settlement House in April.

During one-day tournaments, players can donate 10 nonperishable canned goods or $10 for 10,000 additional tournament chips — every tournament, all month long.

The initiative is part of Rivers Gives, the casino’s long-running community outreach program.

“Poker players are always some of the most generous people in gaming,” said Dave Grubb, poker room manager at Rivers Casino. “Knowing we’re helping Lutheran Settlement House, a worthy Fishtown neighbor, and that players are always looking for extra chips, makes this a win-win.”

Lutheran Settlement House is a multi-service social aid agency that helps over 6,000 children, adults and families every year. They provide a full range of counseling, education, health and housing support that helps provide options when people are feeling optionless — in urgent moments and for the long haul. The organization has been a Fishtown staple for more than 120 years.

“Rivers Casino has been a wonderful community partner with us for more than a decade, and we’re thrilled to be selected for this innovative initiative,” said Erica Zaveloff, director of development at Lutheran Settlement House. “Hundreds of canned goods plus generous cash donations will go a long way in helping the people we serve daily.”

Throughout April, Rivers will offer 43 one-day events. The no-limit Texas Hold ’em and pot-limit Omaha tournaments include the Rivers Bounty Series, which runs Thursday, April 18, through Sunday, April 21:

  • Event 1 (4/18): $200 NLH, double green chip bounty ($5,000 guaranteed)

  • Event 2 (4/19): $250 NLH, black chip bounty ($8,000 guaranteed)

  • Event 3 (4/20): $300 NLH, mystery bounty ($15,000 guaranteed/$2,500 top bounty)

  • Event 4 (4/21): $560 PLO, double black chip bounty ($15,000 guaranteed)

The growing pyramid of canned goods will be displayed in the poker room, along with a running total of cash donations. Adding to the initiative, casino Team Members can also make donations throughout the month.

The can drive will be capped off with the Lutheran Settlement House annual gala on Tuesday, April 30, in Rivers Casino’s Event Center.
